Motorbike Won’t Start — What to Do? A Detailed Guide
If your motorbike won’t start — don’t panic. In most cases, the issue is simple and can be fixed quickly. Below are the most common reasons a scooter or motorcycle might not start — and what you can do about it.
⸻
1. Keyless Remote Is Locked (for Keyless Models)
If your bike has a keyless system, it may not start if the remote is locked. This is a safety feature to prevent accidental button presses.
How to know the remote is locked:
• A red light on the remote means it’s in locked mode — the bike won’t respond.
• A green light means the remote is unlocked and ready to use.
How to unlock the remote:
– Press and hold the button with a key icon on the remote for 2–3 seconds until the green light comes on.
– Then turn the ignition knob on the bike to the “ON” position.
– If done correctly, the dashboard lights will turn on, and you’ll be able to start the bike.
If the remote doesn’t respond or no light appears at all, the battery might be dead — see point 5.
⸻
2. Kickstand Is Down
Most motorbike models have a safety system: if the side stand is down, the bike will not start.
What to do:
– Make sure the kickstand is fully lifted.
⸻
3. Brake Lever Not Pressed Firmly
To start the engine, you need to press and hold the brake lever (usually the left one).
What to do:
– Check that you are pressing the brake lever hard enough.
– Try pressing both brake levers at the same time.
– Make sure the lever isn’t loose or worn out.
⸻
4. Dead Battery
This is one of the most common reasons, especially if:
– You forgot to turn off the ignition,
– You didn’t lock the handlebar,
– The bike hasn’t been used for a while.
How to know the battery is dead:
– The dashboard does not light up when turning the key or pressing the power button.
– You hear clicking, but the engine doesn’t crank.
– The speedometer screen is completely off.
– The alarm (if installed) does not work.
What to do:
– Put the bike on the center stand.
– Make sure the side stand is up.
– Turn the ignition on.
– Try starting with the kick starter (if available).

5. Remote Battery Is Dead
If the bike doesn’t detect the keyless remote, it won’t respond to the start button.
Signs:
– Nothing happens when you press the start button.
– A “Keyless” error or lock icon may appear on the dashboard.
What to do:
– Try holding the remote closer to the ignition area.
– If that doesn’t help — replace the battery inside the remote (usually type CR2032).
– Or call us — we can bring a new battery or give you a spare remote.
⸻
6. No Fuel
Simple, but often forgotten.
Signs:
– Starter motor turns, but engine doesn’t fire.
– You don’t hear fuel sloshing in the tank when shaking the bike.
– The fuel gauge (if available) shows empty.
What to do:
– Buy fuel from the nearest gas station (91 or 95 is fine).
