Motorbike Rental on Pratumnak

Pratumnak is the green hill between Pattaya Beach and Jomtien — Khao Phra Tamnak, the highest natural point in the city at 98 metres. It is a quiet district of condominiums, small hotels and short private beaches, wedged between two of the noisiest parts of Pattaya, and its geography defines everything about getting around here. The sois climb, twist and narrow, footpaths are patchy, and walking up from Cozy Beach on a hot afternoon is nobody's idea of a holiday. Renting a motorbike on Pratumnak is what makes the hill comfortable: the viewpoint, the Big Buddha, the beaches and both halves of the city are all inside ten minutes.

Our office is right here — on Pattaya Park Road, where the hill road drops towards the Jomtien side. You can walk in, pick a bike and ride away: paperwork takes about ten minutes, we are open every day 10:00–20:00 with no lunch break, and the phone and WhatsApp number is +66 88 520 5496 (Telegram @RentMotor). We have rented in Pattaya since 2009 and keep a fleet of over 800 vehicles — Honda and Yamaha bikes, cars and bicycles.

We copy your passport and hand the original straight back — we never hold documents as security. Instead there is a cash deposit: 2,000฿ for bikes up to 160cc, 5,000฿ for 300–350cc, 1,000฿ for a bicycle. Two helmets come with every bike, and we stay reachable for the whole rental.

Which bike to choose for Pratumnak

This is the one district in Pattaya where engine size is a practical question rather than a matter of taste. The climbs to the viewpoint and to Wat Phra Yai are short but genuinely steep, and several sois rise at a gradient that leaves a small scooter struggling with two people aboard:

• Honda Click 125 — the minimum we would suggest for the hill, and fine for one rider. Light, narrow and easy to turn around on a soi barely wider than a car.
• Honda PCX 150 or Click 160 — the sweet spot for Pratumnak. Enough torque to pull two people up to the Big Buddha without dropping to walking pace, and a longer wheelbase that feels steadier on the descents.
• Honda PCX 160 or ADV 160 — if you are here for a while and plan to use the whole city plus trips down Sukhumvit. The ADV's taller suspension shrugs off the broken edges and drain covers on the older hill sois.

Two habits matter more than the badge: brake before the bend, not in it, and use the engine to hold you back on the long descents rather than riding the rear brake all the way down. Where to park a motorbike on Pratumnak

Pratumnak has no large public car parks, so parking here is about finding the right shoulder rather than the right lot.

• Cozy Beach and Pratumnak Beach — small informal areas at the beach access points, often only five to fifteen spaces. Arrive before midday, or in the low afternoon, and you will get one.
• Pratumnak Viewpoint (Chaloem Phrakiat Park) and Wat Phra Yai — both have parking beside the entrance; it is free at the temple and much easier on two wheels than four.
• Roadside on the sois — legal in most places and the normal solution, but always park with the bike facing uphill on a slope, on the centre stand, and check that the front wheel is turned into the kerb.
• Condominiums and hotels have their own bike parking, usually free for guests — ask at reception when you check in.
• What to avoid: red-and-white kerbs, the narrow bends where a parked bike blocks a lane, and soft gravel shoulders on a gradient — bikes do slide off their stands there.

Where to ride from Pratumnak

• The viewpoint loop — up to Pratumnak Viewpoint for the panorama over Pattaya Bay, on to Wat Phra Yai with its 18-metre golden Buddha, then down to Cozy Beach. Under 10 km in total and the best first ride you can take here.
• Bali Hai pier and Walking Street — 2–3 km north down the hill. Bali Hai is also where the Koh Larn ferries leave, with bike parking at the pier.
• Jomtien — 5–6 km over the shoulder of the hill on Thappraya Road, straight onto six kilometres of flat seafront; see our Jomtien page.
• Khao Chi Chan and Silverlake — 25–30 km south via Sukhumvit, a comfortable half-day with wide, quiet roads at the far end.

Roads, traffic and fuel

Traffic volume is not Pratumnak's problem — gradient is. The main road over the hill links South Pattaya with Thappraya Road and carries everything crossing between the two beaches; off it, the sois narrow quickly, bend blind and often have no pavement at all, so pedestrians walk in the road. Take the descents slowly the first time.

The one thing to respect here is rain. A steep slope that is perfectly grippy in the dry becomes genuinely slippery in the first ten minutes of a downpour, when the dust and oil lift off the surface. If it starts raining hard while you are near the top, wait it out under a roof for a quarter of an hour rather than braking your way down.

There is no large filling station on the hill itself. Fill up on Thappraya Road, on Pattaya Tai or out on Sukhumvit, where PTT and Bangchak stations are plentiful and gasohol 95 costs around 39฿ a litre. The roadside bottle sellers on the sois are handy at 5% of a tank but cost noticeably more per litre.

Police, licences and helmets

Checkpoints usually sit at the bottom of the hill rather than on it — at the Thappraya Road junctions and around Pattaya Tai — and foreign riders are stopped there routinely. Helmets are checked first: riding without one is a 500฿ fine and it applies to the passenger too, which is why two helmets come with every bike.

To be clear about licences: we do not require a driving licence to rent. Thai law, however, requires a category A or A1 licence — Thai or an international permit endorsed for motorcycles — to ride, and that is what the police check. Bike delivery on Pratumnak

Because our office is on Pattaya Park Road, on the hill itself, most customers here simply walk in — ten minutes and you ride out. If you would rather have the bike brought to your condo, we deliver anywhere on Pratumnak, normally within 30 to 90 minutes of agreeing the order. Delivery is a paid service and the price depends on the address, so the manager confirms it beforehand.
